0zéro  10dix
1un, une11onze
2deux12douze
3trois13treize
4quatre14quatorze
5cinq15quinze
6six16seize
7sept17dix-sept
8huit18dix-huit
9neuf19dix-neuf

  ideal French pronunciation

You’ll notice that the consonant at the end of cinq and also huit are pronounced. However, this is just true once the numbers stand alone (as in the sound files), precede a vowel or h muet, or room at the end of a sentence. Once either of these numbers is followed by a consonant, that final sound is dropped.

Par exemple…

cinq étudiantsfive studentsq is pronounced
J’en ai cinq.I have 5 of them.q is pronounce
cinq professeursfive teachersq is silent

Six and dix offer additional complications.

The x is express once they was standing alone or are at the finish of a sentence. It’s silent when followed by a consonant

Par exemple…

J’en ai six.I have six the them.x is express
six étudiantssix studentsx is pronounce
six professeurssix teachersx is silent
